Welcome to “Series 1 XJ12 (Jaguar) .com”
This is the story of the acquisition of my (yet to be restored) 1973 Series 1 SWB XJ12, and why!
I really like (love?) Jaguar V12’s .
AND I love V12 sedans! Yes, 2 door coupe are cool, but for some reason I just REALLY love V12 sedans!
So, why did a REALLY buy this car?
Well, I own a 1971 series 1 XJ6, and about 18 years ago I took the time to ZOOM the 4.2 up (with pure Jag parts) as well as (and better yet) up grade the suspension. I ALSO have a 1990 XJS-C, and its powered by a 5.3 Liter V12! I’ve also “messaged” the suspension on the XJS by installing a one inch front sway bar.
My Series one XJ6 has a a set of triple SU, HD8’s installed, and with it’s ported head, and “Matched” head, it’s developing around 295hp! BUT!!! The suspention upgrades were (are) what REALLY make it a FUN car to drive.
On the Series 1 XJ6 I instaled a 1 inch front sway bar, AS WELL as a 7/8the inch REAR sway bar! The front seay bar was a bolt on application, but to install th rear sway bar, I had to fabricate brackets onto the trailing arms, AND then I had “dog bones” fabricated. “Dog bones” are what, and how you connect the rear swaw bar to the trailing arms.

So, on with the story.
Well, the Series 1 XJ6 that I own handels great, AND you simply can’t beat the sound of a Jag V12, when you HAMMER the gas!! LOL…LOL..
What a great feeling that is!!
When you floor a Jag v12 getting onto the fwy, the tack rapidly rises to above 5K on its way to about 6,500 rpm. The sound of that V12 under max acceleration makes me feel like I’m on the first lap of a formula 1 race!!
So while the XJS IS a great car (in my opinion a MUCH better driver than an E-Type) the Series 1 (SWB) XJ (with suspension upgrades) is as about as nimble as a jack rabbit.
AND NOW that I have this series 1 XJ12 I’m going to ge to enjoy that same “Formula 1” feel with a V12 9of the XJS) but with the Jack Rabbit like handling qualities!!
Ohhhhhh…..I can hardly wait!!
